Rank and name
Château du Tertre is one of the 70 Grand Cru Classé estates and was classified as Cinquième Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. It is located in the commune of Margaux in the Bordeaux region.
The estate covers a size of 52 hectares. The vineyards are divided into 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The estate produces about 300,000 bottles of red wine in normal years. About 60-70% goes into grand vin. The remaining amount goes into du Tertre's second wine, Les Hauts du Tertre.
Since 1995, all wines have been in the high-class segment with wine ratings of at least 86 Parker points. The estate is currently owned by Dutchman Eric Albada Jelgersma, whose portfolio also includes neighboring Château Giscours. Alexander van Beek is the manager at both estates. He takes care of the day-to-day business. Van Beek's wife Véronique Sanders manages the day-to-day business at Château Haut-Bailly in Pessac-Léognan.
