The 100% family-owned winery "Vignobles Courselle" was founded in 1950 when André Courselle bought Château Thieuley in the famous Bordeaux region of France, laying the foundation for a great winery.
Château Thieuley - The tone sets the tone
The name "Thieule" comes from the Old French word "tioule", a brick factory that used the local clay, the main ingredient of the great Bordeaux vineyards. The soils are a mixture of clay and gravel. In Clos Sainte Anne, the quality of the terroir lies in the combination of a south-facing slope with deep gravelly soils that lie on a fine clay and limestone subsoil. All these factors contribute to the perfect ripening of the grapes, especially the Merlot.

At Château Thieuley, traditional know-how is combined with the most modern cellar techniques. The high density of vines, averaging 5,500 vines per hectare, is thus almost double the average for the appellation and is based on the strict practices of the Grand Cru. In the early 1980s, most winemakers in Bordeaux removed much of the white grape varieties. Francis Courselle, bucking this trend, planted a large area to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Today, Château Thieuley is best known for the quality of its white wines.

All Château Thieuley wines have the Bordeaux appellation, which is rather unusual for white wines. The wines are carefully blended to combine the specifics in quality, aromas and flavors to produce wines that are significantly more complex than single varietal wines.
