Criadores de Rioja is a fairly young winery that was only founded in 1999. Even though the company has not been on the market for very long, it has already managed to position itself well. The Vivanco family, who have long been involved in trading Rioja wines, owns the estate and of course their expertise can be put to good use there.

Vines on the castle hill - winery Criadores de Rioja
In the Iregua Valley, which is traversed by the river of the same name, the vines grow below the castle ruins of Castillo de Clavijo. Rioja itself is one of the most important wine-growing regions in Europe. The soils consist mainly of:
- white limestone
- clay
The most common grape varieties are Tempranillo and Garnacha.
Viticulture at Criadores de Rioja is carried out with great care; selective pruning and hand harvesting are a matter of course. Pesticides and fertilizers are not used, thus avoiding any burden on nature. Today the estate owns around 350 hectares of vineyards, which benefit from the favorable location below the castle.

Every Criadores de Rioja wine speaks for itself
In the cellar, Paola Redonda is in charge. The cellar master keeps a close eye on the production of the individual single-vineyard wines, which are vinified separately before being blended into cuvées. This preserves the individual character of the wines and allows for many flavor nuances, whether a fruity-berry wine or powerful, balsamic notes. The cellar tradition of Rioja is, overall, heavily inspired by Bordeaux, so the wine is typically aged in barriques.
