More information about Negre - Fautor
In the glass, the Negre - Fautor displays a dense, dark ruby-red color with violet reflections that impressively underline its powerful character. From the very first swirl, intense, multilayered aromas rise from the glass. Ripe blackberries, juicy sour cherries, and blackcurrants form the fruity core. These are joined by delicate notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of roasted coffee bean, supported by fine French oak.
On the nose, an expressive bouquet unfolds, combining depth and elegance. The oak notes are precisely integrated and frame the dark fruit without overpowering it. On the palate, the Negre - Fautor is rich and structured. Its texture is powerful yet silky, with dense, mature tannins that provide impressive grip. The acidity is clear and supportive, lending the wine tension and freshness.
The palate is dry, complex, and multilayered. Black berries, sour cherry, and plum meet dark chocolate, vanilla, delicate smoky nuances, and a touch of licorice. Combined with the warmth of the alcohol, this creates a harmonious, full-bodied impression. The finish is very long, carried by dark fruit and delicate spice, allowing every sip to linger and inviting another taste.

Production of Fautor’s Negre
The grapes for the Negre - Fautor come from carefully selected parcels in the protected Valul lui Traian appellation in southern Moldova. The climate is continental, with warm summers, abundant sunshine, and cooler nights, allowing the berries to ripen intensely while retaining freshness. The soils in this region consist primarily of calcareous clay and loess layers interspersed with mineral-rich rock, giving the wines pronounced structure.
The vineyards are situated in well-ventilated locations with ideal sun exposure. Yields are deliberately kept low so that the grapes can develop a high concentration of aromatic and coloring compounds. Harvesting is selective and preferably carried out by hand, ensuring that only perfectly ripe grapes reach the cellar. Gentle transport preserves the berries from damage and oxidation.
In the cellar, the Fautor team relies on a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern precision. After destemming, the grapes are transferred to temperature-controlled fermentation tanks, where careful maceration and fermentation take place. Controlled temperatures preserve the fruit aromas, while targeted extraction of color and tannins enhances the typical powerful structure of this blend.
After fermentation, the wine matures in 225-liter French oak barriques, most of which are new. This aging process gives the Negre - Fautor its characteristic notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, and delicate roasted aromas. At the same time, contact with the wood softens the tannins and creates a harmonious mouthfeel. The cellar master focuses on an elegant, international character without overshadowing the identity of the indigenous grape varieties.
Before bottling, the wine rests once more in the tank so that all its components can blend harmoniously. The result is a powerful, modern red wine with regional identity and impressive depth.
Serving Suggestions for Fautor’s Negre
The Negre - Fautor reveals its full aromatic spectrum particularly impressively when paired with richly flavored dishes. Its dark fruit, mature tannins, and barrique aging make it an excellent match for hearty dishes from Mediterranean and Eastern European cuisine.
- Braised dishes such as beef cheeks, leg of lamb, or ox cheeks
- Grilled steaks, lamb chops, or game dishes
- Spicy stews and ragouts with root vegetables and herbs
- Mature hard cheeses, blue cheese, and aromatic semi-hard cheeses
- Chocolate desserts with a high cocoa content, ideally with dark chocolate
As an accompaniment for long evenings for two, convivial gatherings with friends, or festive occasions, this red wine impresses with its deep color, intensity, and very long finish. It is equally suitable as an impressive gift for wine explorers who appreciate characterful wines off the beaten track.
The ideal serving temperature is between 15 and 18 °C. At this temperature, the wine reveals its fruit and spice particularly clearly, while the tannins feel velvety. Decanting approximately one hour before serving supports the development of the bouquet and allows the oak notes to appear even more refined.
For storage, a cool, dark room with a consistent temperature and minimal vibration is recommended. Bottles stored horizontally help keep the cork flexible and protect the wine from unwanted exposure to air. Under good conditions, the Negre - Fautor develops additional maturity over several years, making its aromatic profile appear even more complex. The result is a red wine that already offers great enjoyment today while also possessing exciting aging potential.
