Domaine Anderson - Wine from the Anderson Valley

In northern California, between redwood forests and the Mentocino Coast, lies the Anderson Valley. Warm days alternate with cool, misty nights, giving the region a special characteristic that is ideally suited for high-quality viticulture.

In the 1980s, Jean-Claude Rouzaud of the Louis Roederer family was looking for a winery to grow premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He found what he was looking for in the Anderson Valley and foundedDomaine Anderson here . Today, it is his son Frederic who runs the estate and is committed to environmental protection and sustainable management. He is assisted by winemaker Darrin Low and general manager Bob Gibson.

A place for animals and plants

Two vineyards belong to Domaine Anderson:

  • the Dach Vineyard and
  • the Walraven Vineyard.

In the midst of the former is the estate's winery. 7 hectares of vineyards are present here, nestled on the slopes of the surrounding hills. The Walraven Vineyard is then found a short distance to the east, framed by oak woods. In keeping with the environmental philosophy of Domaine Anderson, various measures have been taken in both vineyards, such as a water treatment system and wildlife corridors.

The winery of Domaine Anderson

Harvesting at Domaine Anderson is done exclusively by hand. Also by hand, the grapes are sorted in the winery. The rustic, natural character is also reflected in the building, which was designed by Howard Backen, who was also involved in George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch, for example.

Fermentation takes place in open steel and wooden tanks, which also allows the wines to undergo traditional batonnage. Barriques for aging are imported from Burgundy, and 25-35% are renewed each year. The Pinot Noir from Domaine Anderson matures over 16 months, the Chardonnay 12 months in oak barrels.
