Domaine Trapet

A winery with a philosophical bent

"I am at the service of nature, I am its right arm", is how the young passionate winemaker Jean-Louis Trapet can be quoted, who cherishes his 14 hectares of vines, the majority of which thrive in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The Trapet family has lived here for six generations now. Jean-Louis ' passion is clearly wine - first and foremost, of course, the white and red Burgundies he presses on the estate he inherited from his parents. But then there's Alsace, because that's where his wife Andrée's roots lie, and she actively supports him in the winery. 

In 1997, he switched to strict biodynamic guidelines, according to which he has been working ever since. Yields have also been more than halved to give the wines a quality boost. Domaine Trapet also does not use fining or filtration at all.

The vine in balance

The Trapet family doesn't think much of trying to extract anything from the vines. "I deliberately follow the path of gentleness and respect to obtain the greatest possible expression of my terroirs ", says Jean-Louis Trapet. He also wants to support the vines in their search for natural balance with the soil, water, air and sun. Because he is convinced that man is only passing through, but the earth remains. With such a philosophical mindset and with the estate's vines averaging 30 years old, it is thus no surprise that Domaine Trapet produces outstanding terroir wines. The wines are a model of purity, balance and finesse, and - like the Grand cru Latricières-Chambertin - are among the elite of Burgundy. The high quality of the wines is also evidenced by the fact that a few years ago the estate was accepted into the association "sauvegarde de la diversité des cépages de Bourgogne" - which is worth at least as much as a title of nobility!
