Ego Bodegas - Passion and modernity meets the tradition of Jumilla

Located at the gates of historic Jumillas, from a dream in 2011 Ego Bodegas was born a winery, which expresses the realization of their passion by its founders Santos Ortiz and Ioana Paunescu. "Con Palicos y canicas" - With sticks and marbles, as it is colloquially called in the region, the two have built the bodega from top to bottom with few resources, preparing the ground for a success story. The goals are as simple as they are clear: to sell and to operate profitably. Two years after the foundation, good design, good prices and even better wine ensure that you are already represented in over 30 countries and have thus achieved the formulated goals.

Terrior of the Ego Bodegas

On the total of 35 hectares of vineyards, mainly the native grape variety Monastrell is cultivated, which in the D.O. Jumilla is not to be excluded. The continental climate, influenced by the Mediterranean Sea and the plateau of La Mancha, provides the Monastrell grape with the perfect conditions to reach an exceptional maturity. The dark, calcareous soils and a low percentage of organic material ensure that pests cannot multiply.

Wines from the bodega

Common international grape varieties are also grown on the terroir, these include:

• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Petit Verdot
• Moscatel
• Chardonnay
• Sauvignon Blanc  

In the bodega we work strictly according to modern and hygienic standards in order to always offer the best quality to our customers. However, the tradition of viticulture in the region is always respected. Santos and Ioana are always on the lookout for the best grapes from the Jumilla region in order to continue to deliver the exceptional quality. After harvesting, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to later mature in American oak barrels. This results in the unique wines that are already ready to drink, but may well be stored for a few more years and thereby continue to improve their quality.
