The history of La Rioja Alta begins on July 10, 1809, the day when five Riojan and Basque families formed the Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta. The vision was not only to share the passion for wine, but also to vinify high quality Rioja wines.

The pillars on which La Rioja Alta stands are: Quality, Elegance, Innovation, Evolution. This implies a constant pursuit of excellence - in the vineyard as well as in the winery. State-of-the-art viticultural technologies are combined with winemaking tradition, wisdom, own cooperage, manual bottling and long aging periods.

High quality wines are created in the vineyard

The vines are located on 400 hectares of vineyards in the best locations of Rioja. Tempranillo occupies the highest percentage. Other local grape varieties are:

• Graciano
• Granacha
• Mazuelo

These grape varieties are essential for the distinctive personality of La Rioja Alta.

Own barrels in the cellar

Oak is essential for the aging process. Therefore, La Rioja Alta produces its own barrels with its own cooperage. The wine cellar contains about 30,000 of them. These are still made according to traditional craftsmanship.
