Latentia Winery - once across Italy

Latentia Winery is an Italian company with wineries in Puglia, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The wines are produced according to the tradition of the respective regions in order to convey the best impression of these wine-growing areas. Each winery can rely on its own team of oenologists who ensure the high quality standards. Latentia Winery continues to focus on the sustainable production of its wines to ensure future-proof management.

The wine regions

Puglia

The "boot heel" of Italy is one of the largest wine producing regions in Italy. Until the turn of the millennium, the region was quite unknown outside of Italy, having been devoted mainly to large-scale production and production of vermouth or concentrate. In recent decades, however, a change in thinking has taken place among local winemakers and some wineries have converted their production, so that now high-quality wines are produced. Typical of the region are the present red wines made from grape varieties such as Primitivo and Malvasia, although white grapes such as Bombino Bianco are also grown, although these do not dominate the market as much.

Veneto

Veneto is one of the shooting stars of the Italian wine world. In terms of vineyard area, the region is surpassed only by Puglia and Sicily. Some of the best wines in Italy are produced here, mainly on the slopes in the transition to the Alps. The climate is characterized by the Alps, which carry cool air into the otherwise Mediterranean region. Famous wines from Veneto are, for example, the Soave, a white wine, which comes as Riserva also with barrel aging. Prosecco is probably the Italian sparkling wine par excellence, although a few years ago it did not have an overly good reputation due to its mixed quality. By regulating the growing regions, the Italian state intervened and thus created the basis for today's wines, which may also only be produced from the grape variety Glera (which was formerly called Prosecco itself). On the red side stands out the Amarone, a wine made from dried grapes, which is therefore very powerful, fruity and alcoholic.

Friuli Venezia Giulia

Viticulture in this region is very steeped in history, with the first traces dating back to the Bronze Age, 3000 years ago. Both red and white grape varieties are grown, but the region is much better known for the latter. Some of the best white wines in Italy are produced here, names like Collio, Isonzo and Carso are well known to the white wine connoisseur. As competition from international grape varieties has increased in recent years, there has been a renewed focus on autochthonous grape varieties with their own character, above all Friulano. The climate is characterized by two major factors, on the one hand the warm air from the Venetian lagoon, on the other hand the Julian Alps, which shield Friuli from the cold from the mountains. On the edge of the Alps, Friuli also has microclimates that are very dependent on the immediate surroundings. The region is very rich in precipitation, with the bulk of the rain falling in spring. The terroir is characterized by loose, mineral-rich soils that are highly subject to erosion. For this reason, vineyards in Friuli are often planted with vegetation.

The brands of Latentia Winery

4 sub-brands belong to Latentia Winery:

  • Ca' di Prata
  • Novantaceppi
  • Zardetto
  • Val Passo

Ca' di Prata

Sparkling wines are produced under this brand in Veneto. With this combination, of course, Prosecco immediately pops into one's head, and it is precisely this that is produced under the brand in various versions. Starting with the simple Frizzante sparkling wine, through a "standard" Prosecco to the high-quality Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore. In addition, a sparkling wine is also produced from the Ribolla Gialla grape in Friuli. All wines are produced in pressure tanks using the Charmat method.

Novantaceppi

A large part of Latentia's portfolio is made up of Novantaceppi wines. Behind the brand are mainly wines from the Apulian winery, although there are also some representatives from other regions. It produces mainly red, but also rosé and white wines with the 90 on the label. True to their motto of using typical winemaking techniques of the region, for example, they produce an Appassimento, a wine made from dried grapes. The strongly present Primitivo is, of course, not to be missed. In addition to varietal wines, there are also wines with protected designations of origin in the program, such as a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo or a Primitivo di Manduria.

Zardetto

This brand is all about sparkling wine, or more precisely, the Italian sparkling wine par excellence: Prosecco. Compared to Ca' di Prata, the wines of this brand are more modern and diversified, from the bottle design to the production methods. Prosecco is available in different flavors, whether Brut or Extra Dry, with different aging times, or even as organic wine. There is also a rosé, but it is not allowed to bear the name Prosecco, as this is reserved for sparkling wines from the Glera grape variety.

Val Passo

This brand represents two grape varieties at Latentia: Cabernet Sauvignon and Primitivo. These two grapes are used to produce cuvées that marry the Italian hit with one of the noblest grape varieties in the world. The result is dark, spicy wines with the power of Primitivo and the elegance of Cabernet.
