MED - crazy about the Mediterranean

MED is a producer of rosé wines based in the Netherlands. The logo and also the name are a word and letter play of "Med" for the Mediterraneum, as well as "Mad" - English for crazy.

This quote can be seen as the brand's motto, the people behind it are crazy about the Mediterraneum and one wine in particular - French rosé from the Mediterranean coast. These wines have really skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, with the lightness and joie de vivre they convey, taking everyone on holiday just a little bit.

The Provençal Rosé and MED

The center of rosé production is in France in Provence. The area is the largest producer of rosé wines in the world and has a very definite style. A striking feature is the very light colour compared to rosé wines from other origins. The color of a rosé wine is primarily determined by the pressing and subsequent resting time on the mash before it is separated from the juice again and fermentation begins. In Provence, the grapes are subjected to direct pressing. This involves pressing the grapes without leaving them to rest. The winemakers then take only the juice and ferment it. This is how the typical light pink color of the southeastern French rosés is created.

Due to these processing methods, the wines are then very fresh and mineral, very suitable for the hot climate of the Mediterranean coast. In recent years, the winegrowers here have had to cope with rising temperatures due to climate change. Research institutes and the winemakers are working hand in hand to cope with the change and preserve the wine and its iconic style.
