Mombasa Club History

By the end of the 19th century and at the height of the Victorian era, the great British Empire already dominated the shipping lanes, trade routes and most of the freight traffic between East and West throughout Africa.
The search for ever newer routes created adventurous seafarers who led the discovery of remote and unknown places throughout Africa. The most important of these was the coastal town of Mombasa, opposite the island of Zanzibar, which, because of its strategic location, soon became the most important port and trading centre in all of East Africa. It was there that the first private social club was established. The legendary Mombasa Club, founded in 1885 by and for officers of the British East African Protectorate.
This club was an essential part of social life during the colony, where its members held lively meetings or shared news in conjunction with their Mombasa Club Gin & Tonic. An exclusive gin from England and specially distilled and bottled for the consumption and enjoyment of its founding members.

Mombasa Club is a premium London Dry Gin at 41.5% by volume, and that's despite the fact that its formula dates back to the late 19th century.
• Mombasa Gin Club Colonel's Reserve - This gin is a special limited edition in tribute to those adventurers who managed to lead the British Victorian Empire to its most glorious days. Made in the classic English style, Colonels Gin has a higher alcohol content (43.5% by volume) and more intense flavours than its namesake. This gin contains seven botanicals, highlighting caraway instead of angelica. Of particular note is the addition of calamus, an aquatic plant that grows in swampy areas.
• Mombasa Club Strawberry Edition - A new fruity gin style that retains the personality of a classic London gin, enriched with a careful selection of strawberries and red fruits. A product of great quality and personality with triple distillation.
• Mombasa Lemon Edition - is the newest member of the Mombasa Gin family. Following demand, Mombasa Club presents a completely new gin. It retains the classic London Dry style and adds a world of citrus and fruity flavours. Mombasa Club Lemon Edition is a gin enriched with a selection of Mediterranean lemons, whose personality has been extracted through the triple distillation process.
