Monti Pallidi - La Vis wines come from the Dolomites. They are located in the Southern Calcareous Apes, but are also considered part of the Southern Alps. They are located in the regions Veneto and Trentino - South Tyrol. The name of the Dolomites as well as of the dolomite rock is derived from the French geologist Déodat de Dolomieu. Before he described the dolomite rock, the name Monti pallidi "pale mountains" was widespread.

The Pale Mountains
Steep vineyards overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of the Dolomites, glacial lakes glistening in the sun, the gently flowing Adige gurgling down in the valley. Where are we? No, not in South Tyrol, but in the insider tip Trentino! There is a lot that connects these two most northern wine-growing regions of Italy, a largely identical grape variety, comparable climate and a high number of excellently run cooperatives. However, Trentino is overshadowed by South Tyrol, which is particularly noticeable in terms of price, supplying the wine market with the highest quality varietal wines at exceptionally low prices. In Trentino, the sites do not reach quite as high as in South Tyrol, and the vineyards place somewhat more humane demands on man and machine. The center of viticulture is the lively regional metropolis of Trento, not far from where La Vis, one of the absolute top wineries of Trentino, is located. La Vis has productive vineyards in the Adige Valley, but is also responsible for super sites in the Valle di Cembra, which reach up to 900 meters above sea level. The Dolomites used to be called Monti Pallidi, the pale mountains. La Vis thus pays the greatest respect to the magnificent natural landscape around Trento.

Grape distribution
The vineyards are cultivated with 80% white grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Müller Thurgau. Among the red grapes we find Schiava, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Teroldego and Lagrein. The production area consists of vineyards in Trentino, stretching from the Lavis, Sorni and Meano hills, the characteristic terraces of the Cembra Valley to Isera in Vallagarina, as well as some plots in South Tyrolean territory.
