Oddbird - when life experiences become a wine

Oddbird is a non-alcoholic wine brand from Sweden, which was founded in 2013 by Moa Gürbüzer. Moa was a social worker for 2 decades in her first professional life. Her main field of work was family problems related to alcohol. The impression through her work made her grow the conviction that the social handling of alcohol has to change. However, in order not to give up the valuable cultural asset of wine, she decided to create a brand of high-quality, non-alcoholic wines. Today, Oddbird is the largest Scandinavian producer of non-alcoholic wines.

The vineyards of Oddbird are located among others in France

Where do Oddbird's grapes come from?

Depending on the wine, the grapes for Oddbird's wines come from different, carefully selected vineyards in regions in Italy and France, each with its own terroirs:

  • Treviso in Veneto, vineyards with limestone, marl and sandstone soils
  • Breganza in Veneto, soils of volcanic rock
  • Languedoc-Roussilon, limestone soils
  • Alsace, sandstone, clay and marl soils

Different grape varieties are used depending on the region, for example Oddbird uses Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

Oddbird wines are characterized above all by long aging period

Production of Oddbird wines

Oddbird wines, unlike non-alcoholic wines of other brands, are produced more elaborately. Where others just let the base wine ferment a bit and then initiate dealcoholization, Oddbird's wines are made using traditional methods and aged for up to 12 months before the alcohol is removed. As little as possible is done to the wines during production to leave them as natural as possible. No substances are added for embellishment, flavoring or the like.

Oddbird sees its wines as a way to give society a choice between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on occasions without sacrificing the distinguished look and taste of wine. Oddbird's portfolio today includes white wines, red wines, and several sparkling wines, both single varietals and cuvées. A special feature is the 2097 Gin, which is produced directly in Sweden and expands the range for the first time with a spirit.
