The journey begins - Quady Winery

In 1975, Andrew Quady and his wife Laurel moved to the San Joaquin Valley. They wanted to embrace the rural lifestyle and Andrew wanted to earn a degree in enology, leaving behind his previous life as an explosives manufacturer. In the beginning, they grew Zinfandel and produced 1600 cases in their first year.

In 1979 Andrew discovered an unused bed of the rare grape variety Orange Muscat - also known as Moscato Fior d'Arancio. This discovery marked the beginning of a long journey that resulted in their current expertise in Muscat wines. Milestones were, for example, the Elysium Black Muscat, whose grapes come from a vineyard originally used for mass wines in the church: when the church no longer wanted the wine, the Quadys took it on.

They called their port version "Starboard", as port is a trademarked term. The latter is served upside down, leaning on the Port side of the ship (left). The Quadys turned it around, their Starboard should please be passed right side up.

These are just a few small excursions in the history of Quady Winery, now co-owned by Andrew, Laurel and their son Herb. They are assisted by winemaker Darin Peterson. The estate's muscats are becoming increasingly popular today, alongside the Vya Vermouth is another great success story.

What makes Quady 's wines special is the passion. The flavors of the rare muscat varieties in the San Joaquin Valley are celebrated and intensified at Quady Winery. This allows the full flavors to be found, rather than diminishing them through blending.

As diverse as the range of grape varieties is, the Quadys family products can be used in a variety of ways.

The varietals used by the winemakers are all wonderful expressions of the San Joaquin Valley.
This creates a wine that is rich, perfectly balanced and incomparable in flavor.
