About 3 decades ago the idea of a winery in Montepulicano became reality. Over the years, a classic farm has developed into a high-quality and innovative winery. Since 1997 Michele Manelli has been running the Salcheto winery with passion, love and dedication.

The main focus at Salcheto

Is to vinify terroir and sangiovese oriented wines. The aromas are perfectly brought out in every single bottle and the drinking pleasure is brought to the point. The wines go through the following vinification process:
The grapes are harvested and selected manually

• native yeasts are used
• the wines are vinified according to the "Tuscan Governo" method
• and aged in large botte and tonneaux.

The winery name Salcheto

Salco means "willow tree" in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for vineyards throughout history as its branches were used to bind the vines. Salcheto is the name of the stream that rises at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and meanders through a valley where willows abound. This stream is the boundary of our organic and biodynamic winery, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile in the southeast of the province of Siena in Tuscany. The willow tree, a species we continue to replant on the estate, also contributes to the winery's energy independence and is now prominently featured in our logo as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability.

Is for you the symbol of the Tuscan terroir Montepulciano - like the prince of Tuscany. This is also how the vines and grapes are treated at Salcheto.

Salcheto and its bottle shape

It is known as Bordolese Toscanella and is said to recall the ancient history of Tuscan wine. It is also the lightest and most ecological bottle on the market. Salcheto is always careful to reconcile history, innovation and quality.
