Sogrape Vinhos was born from the determination and boldness of a group of friends who, in the challenging economic and political context of 1942, decided to invest in the talent of a visionary man and develop an innovative wine company capable of placing Portuguese wines in international markets.

It was Fernando van Zeller Guedes’ vision, character and strong personality that set the course for the Sogrape project, which many believed was doomed to fail. The ability to see further than others, as demonstrated by Sogrape’s founder, led to the creation of the first global Portuguese wine brand – Mateus Rosé – whose overwhelming commercial success in more than 120 countries was decisive for the company’s growth and for confirming the leadership position it rightfully claims today.

The true stature of today’s company, Sogrape Vinhos, arises from the breadth of its portfolio, which, in addition to prestigious Ferreira and Offley Ports, also includes the two largest Portuguese wine brands in the world – Mateus Rosé and Sandeman.

To these are added renowned specialist brands from all the major regions, such as Barca Velha, the pride of Casa Ferreirinha (Douro); the elegant wines of Quinta dos Carvalhais (Dão); the vibrant creations of Herdade do Peso (Alentejo); the fresh Vinho Verdes from Quintas de Azevedo and Gazela; and the versatile wines of Grão Vasco (Dão), to name only the most famous.
