Terramagna Grupo in Rias Baixas

The Rias Baixas designation of origin runs through the lowlands of Galicia. MIt has an average altitude of 300 meters, moreover, is usually always close to the Atlantic Ocean and constantly in contact with the lower river courses of the long valleys. Its climatic characteristics have an Atlantic influence, which manifests itself in mild temperatures and high and well-distributed rainfall, with a decrease in water during the summer months. The mainstay is the Albariño grape variety, which currently accounts for 94% of the registered vineyards.

La Rioja was the first Spanish wine region to receive a designation of origin in 1952. The year-round mild temperatures with many hours of sunshine, stable rainfall and the altitude of the vineyards from 350 to 650 m make the area an ideal environment for growing grapes. Due to the orographic and climatic diversity, three production subzones are distinguished: La Rioja, Álava and Navarra, where wines with different characteristics are grown.

It obtained the qualification of Designation of Origin in 1964 and has an area of 7,118 ha. The altitude of the vineyards is between 700 and 1000 m, with calcareous soils, with carbonates, under a fertile topsoil on flat land. It is an emerging denomination because it is located in a privileged area for the production of high quality wines.

The vineyards are located on a large plain with an altitude between 700 and 900 meters above sea level. The qualities of the territory give the wines of this land an excellence that is universally recognized. The wine culture is deeply rooted in the life of its inhabitants and is transmitted to each of the wineries of the territory.

The total area of this DO is 42,000 hectares of vines, with Jumilla monopolizing the main vineyard. Most of the vineyards are made up of red grapes grown at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, providing a sunny and dry climate. The Monastrell variety finds the perfect habitat for its development. The calcareous soil, the harsh climate and the low rainfall contribute to the grape developing its maximum characteristics in colour and flavour.

• Monastrell - It is one of the most deeply rooted red grape varieties in Spanish territory, it spreads in the southeastern area of the peninsula, especially in the Albacete plateau.
• Garnacha - This variety is one of the oldest existing varieties, dating back centuries. It is very hardy and can withstand adverse environmental conditions.
• Tempranillo - It originated in Spain and is the most widespread variety in our area, producing very different wines depending on the country and climate where it is grown.
• Verdejo - It is one of the highest quality and most important white grapes grown in Spain. With small and upright grapes, harvesting is usually done at night to obtain less oxidation and reaches the winery strawberry to improve its fermentation.
