A businessman named Don Leandro Vázquez from Cuba has a passion: wine. The dream: to build his own winery in the region Rioja Alavesa. And sometimes dreams become reality. The Cuban businessman bought 15 hectares of vineyards in Páganos (Álava). in 1995, the vineyards of Don Leandro Vázquez covered 45 hectares - Torre de Oña was founded and since then belongs to Grupo La Rioja Alta.

For every winemaker, the priority is to vinify excellent wine of the best quality. This is also the case at Torre de Oña. The best vineyards in the prestigious area of Rioja Alavesa, this unique location gives the wines its own personality. 

Breaking new ground

Since 2005 Torre de Oña began to pay special attention to each plot. The soil has been evaluated and it has been determined which grape variety feels most comfortable in which plot. There is a separate production and aging of each sub-plot. This is the only way to achieve the quality standards and produce high quality wines, such as
