More information about Martelo Reserva DOCa - Torre de Oña

The Martelo Reserva from Torre de Oña in the Spanish DOCa Rioja wine region is an excellent, aromatic and balanced red wine cuvée vinified from the Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura grape varieties.

In the glass, this wine shimmers an intense ruby red with cherry red highlights and garnet rim. The nose is caressed by intense aromatics. Fruity aromas of raspberries, cherries and cranberries reveal themselves - perfectly underpinned by balsamic and spicy notes of vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and cloves. On the palate, this Spanish red wine convinces with a wonderful freshness and balance. The pleasant acidity is very well balanced and harmonizes wonderfully with the silky tannins. This red wine is rounded off by a pleasantly long finish that promises a great storage potential

Vinification of the Torre de Oña Finca Martelo Reserva

The grapes for this red wine come from vines over sixty years old, distributed on north-south slopes. The winemaker Julio Sáenz draws on the Martelo, Camino de la Iglesia and Las Cuevas vineyards for the Martelo Reserva.

Carefully hand-picked, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery of Torre de Oña. There, the grapes are first destemmed, crushed and cold macerated at a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius for 9 days. Then starts the alcoholic fermentation followed by a 96-day malolactic fermentation with weekly bâttonage in American and French oak.

Finally, this wine rounds off harmoniously for 24 months in French and American oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Reserva Torre de Oña Martelo

Enjoy this dry red wine from Spain with braised beef in dark sauce, roasted fillet of beef on potato-celery mash or with selected sausage specialties.
