The island of Samos is located in the eastern Aegean Sea, near the Turkish coast. It is the birthplace of the mathematician Pythagoras and the philosopher Epicurus. Besides their personalities, however, the island is still known for its sweet Muscat wine. The grape variety White Muscat occupies 98% of the island's vineyards.
The history of the famous Sami Muscat wine goes back so far that its origins are mixed with mythology. The first historical references by Hippocrates, for example, already testify to the active cultivation of the plant and the trade in wine. The island is characterized by stone terraces on the two mountain massifs. One of these massifs even bears the name "Ampelos" ("Vine").
EOS Samos is a cooperative of wine growers on the island and also one of the oldest in the country. It was founded in 1934 and today almost all the marketing of the island's wine is in its hands. It is dedicated to the protection of its area of origin as well as the advancement of the winemakers of Samos.
