Vignobles Comtes von Neippberg is a winery owned by the German noble family of the same name. The von Neippberg family has been associated with viticulture since the 13th century. The family’s ancestral seat is in northern Württemberg around the town of Schwaigern. Even back then, the vine was a central element of the family’s activities, something that has been preserved to this day. While the family still cultivates its vineyards around their place of origin today, they gradually acquired vineyards in Saint-Émilion in the 1970s.

Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg - Wines of the Nobility

Stephan-Christoph von Neippberg now manages the estates together with his wife Sigweis, which his father brought into the family. From the very beginning, he started to orient viticulture towards respect for the terroir and the surrounding nature, at a time when this was not yet a matter of course.

The family’s French holdings initially consisted of four estates:

  • Château Canon La Gaffelière
  • La Mondotte
  • Clos de l'Oratoire
  • Château Peyreau

The Present Day

In 1985, Christoph took over management and expanded the reputation of the estates. The exploration of new terroirs was also important to him. Over time, Château d'Alguilhe and Clos Marsalette were added. In addition, he brought estates into the family that are not located in the Saint-Émilion region, or even in France. Thus, Château Giraud in Bordeaux, Capaia in South Africa and Bessa Valley in Bulgaria are part of the Vignobles Comtes von Neippberg.

La Mondotte

Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg shows respect for land and grape

Due to their many different vineyard sites and terroirs, Vignobles Comtes von Neippberg offer a broad portfolio that has something for everyone. The ecological approach, which the von Neippbergs have consistently pursued since 1988, was rewarded in 2014 with organic certification for Château Canon de Gaffelière and La Mondotte

In the cellar, the grapes are handled with utmost care. Fermentation takes place with temperature control in large wooden vats; to ensure good aroma, a pneumatic pigeage has been used since 1997, which regularly submerges the cap and thus fully exploits the grapes’ potential. Maturation takes place by parcel in barriques. On average, the wines are aged for 18 months.
