The Azienda Agricola Virna di Borgogno Virna is named after its winemaker, who today runs the estate. Together with her sister Ivana, Virna takes care of the day-to-day business.

Virna Borgogno Winery - Woman Power in Piedmont
Virna Borgogno was the first woman in Italy to graduate in oenological technology from the University of Turin. in 1988 she joined the family business, helping her father Lodovico. The history of the estate dates back to 1720, but the modern winery in its current form was not founded until 1950 by Enrico Borgogno. in 2001, the estate was renamed, and the design was completely revamped. Since then, the Virna logo can be found on the bottles and at the winery.
Virna Borgogno and Barolo
The estate is located near the village of Barolo, in one of the most famous wine-growing regions of Piedmont. Today, Virna Borgogno owns 10 hectares of vineyards in the region. Due to its maritime origins (the area was an inland sea in prehistoric times), sandstone soils are found here, which also have large amounts of calcareous marl. Warm, dry summers cause water stress on the vines, but make for very rich berries. In addition to the Nebbiolo used for Barolo, Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto and several other grape varieties are also grown.

The portfolio of Virna Borgogno
Five different Barolos are offered by Virna Borgogno, 4 of which come from single vineyards in different municipalities. This allows each bottle to express the terroir of the individual vineyard, and lovers of Piedmontese wine have the opportunity to find "their" Barolo. In addition there are
- a Dolcetto d'Alba
- two Barbera d'Alba and
- three Langhe wines
are vinified. A rosé can also be found in the portfolio today.
