The organic winery Hemer: Tradition meets innovation

In the picturesque Worms-Abenheim, nestled in the gentle hills of the "Rheinhessen Tuscany", lies the organic winery Hemer. Founded in 1902, it is now run in the fourth generation by brothers Stefan and Andreas Hemer. With passion and dedication, they continue the family tradition, combining tried-and-true methods with modern, sustainable practices.

Hemer Winery Family

The philosophy of the Hemer winery: Sustainability and respect for nature

Since 2003, the Hemer winery has been managing its 50 hectares of vineyards strictly according to organic guidelines and is subject to ECOVIN regulations. They consciously refrain from using chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Additionally, the wines are produced vegan and carry the V-label. The goal is a harmonious and sustainable dialogue between nature, man, and viticulture to leave a pristine environment for future generations.

Rheinhessen: The growing region of the Hemer winery

The Hemer winery is located in Rheinhessen, the largest wine-growing region in Germany. The region is characterized by a warm and sunny climate, providing ideal conditions for viticulture. The calcareous loess soils, especially in the Klausenberg and on the Ludwigshöher Rheinfront, lend the wines their characteristic smoothness and power.

The vineyard locations of the Hemer winery

The Hemer winery manages several outstanding vineyard sites:

  • Abenheimer Klausenberg: The calcareous loess soils of this site create perfect conditions for smooth and powerful aromas.
  • Ludwigshöher Rheinfront: In the sunny slopes and calcareous loess soils, particularly expressive wines are produced.

Wine production at the Hemer winery: Tradition and modernity in harmony

The wine production at the Hemer winery combines traditional methods with modern techniques:

  • Red wines: Aged in large wooden barrels, with the premium wines being matured for up to 24 months in barriques to achieve complexity and depth.

Stylistics and wine lines of the Hemer winery

The wines of the Hemer winery are characterized by their smoothness and strength. The classification is done through a star system:

  1. 1 Star: Fruity, uncomplicated estate wines, such as the delicate and sparkling Silvaner or the strawberry-flavored and slightly peppery Portugieser.
  2. 2 Stars: Kabinett and Spätlese qualities, such as the elegant Chardonnay with the scent of fresh bread or the sustainable Merlot with aromas of green pepper.
  3. 3 Stars: Premium wines, such as the finely melting Riesling from old vines from the "Abenheimer Klausenberg" or the harmoniously full-bodied Cuvée Charlotte.
