Loacker Winery - Three Brothers for Organic
The Loacker winery is located in South Tyrol, not far from the city of Bolzano. In 1979, Rainer Loacker decided to pursue only organic viticulture on his winery. An unimaginable thing for the time, his colleagues declared him crazy without further ado. Yet he was to be one of the first winemakers to usher in a new era in the craft. Today, in the face of man's impact on the environment, this method of cultivation has become more than respectable and, for many, is part of good manners. Today, 40 years later, the Loackers like to call themselves "oldies in organic wine." The estate is now run by Rainer's sons Hayo, Franz Josef and Hannes. In addition to the main Loacker winery, the Tenuta Corte Pavone and the Tenuta Valdifalco, which are located in Tuscany, also belong to the Loacker Wine Estates group.

The Terroir Puzzle of South Tyrol - Loacker Winery
The Loackers' ancestral vineyard has 7 hectares of vines spread over the Schwarhof and Kohlerhof vineyards. They are located in the St. Magdalener area near Bolzano. Another site is located in the Eisack Valley with the Kalten Keller. Here the Loackers cultivate the following grape varieties:
- Gewürtraminer
- Chardonnay
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Lagrein
- Merlot
- Cabernet Sauvignon
The terroir in South Tyrol resembles a puzzle. Thus, one finds a wide variety of soil types depending on the vineyard, such as a mixture of clay, loam and slate on the Kalten Keller, or sand, loam and porphyry on the Schwarhof. This gives the winemakers many options to find the best combination of grape variety and soil. The wine is harvested exclusively by hand.

Legendary wines in name and taste - Loacker Winery
60000 bottles are produced annually by the Loacker winery. The estate produces white and red wines from the cultivated grape varieties. The focus is on single varietal wines, only occasionally cuvées are produced, such as the white "Timeless" cuvée of Chardonnay, Kerner, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Typical for South Tyrol, the Loackers also give a lot of space to the Lagrein grape variety, from which wines are also vinified that have been aged for a longer period of time. The wines are more often named after historical figures or legendary characters, such as the knight Ywain, who comes from a Celtic-French saga, or Lareyn, after the bard of Prince Torcol from the sagas of Ey de Nét and Dolasilla.
The construction method
The Loackers focus on naturalness both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The wines are fermented spontaneously, no artificial fermentation is forced. The wines are often aged in stainless steel and then in wood, which also applies to the white wines. Both large barrels with 3200 l capacity and smaller sizes such as the barrique (225 l) or the tonneau (500 l) are used. The Loackers use glass corks to close their bottles, another curiosity for winemaking where natural cork, synthetics or screw caps are usually used.
