Nigl Winery in Austria
The Wein-Gut Nigl Hotel and Restaurant, is located in the Krems Valley. Beautifully located at the foot of the Senftenberg Kirchenberg. The former reading farm of Prince Starhemberg dates back to the 12th century and was taken over by the Nigl family in 1994 and used as a winery. Located about 70 km northwest of Vienna in a side valley of the Danube, the stone terraces around Senftenberg provide the ideal conditions for the finesse and elegance of the wines from the Nigl Winery. Martin Nigl and his family cultivate some of the best sites in the Krems Valley. Together they run the winery and the hotel and restaurant business in the Kremstal. A passionate winemaker who produces unadulterated wines of the highest quality. They are also members of the Association of Austrian Traditional Wine Estates.

Soil & Climate of the Nigl Estate
The primary rock soils with weathered granite, gneiss, mica slate and amphibolite provide minerality. The location on the cultivation border, as well as the strong temperature fluctuations during the ripening period give the wines their cool aroma. Hot summer days are followed by nights that bring the coolness from the surrounding Waldviertel and thus enhance the aroma. The grape harvest often lasts for many weeks up to 2 months. The winegrowers make sure that only the ripest grapes are harvested in several rounds in one and the same vineyard. In this way they want to guarantee the highest possible initial quality for their wines.

Weingut Nigl grape varieties
The main grape varieties in the Kremstal vineyards are
- Grüner Veltliner
- Riesling
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Muscat
Blauer Zweigelt and Merlot are cultivated in the chalky Krems loess sites, Pinot Noir finds optimal conditions in the Pfenningberg vineyard, a very steep mica slate site. Our Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner stand for top quality from Austria. Wines rich in elegance and finesse of the Krems Valley.

The philosophy of the winery
"The winemaker tries to orient himself in a complex environment of geology, microclimate and cosmic influences. The sundial and the compass as the main symbol for the logo of the traditional wineries count for a lot." - Martin Nigl
