Controlled idleness in the cellar of the Weltner winery

And not just anywhere, but in Rödelsee, a well-known wine village in Lower Franconia. The Weltner winery is known then as now for exclusive top wines, with which the winemakers know how to stand out from the other wineries in the region. In 2005, the current owner and managing director Paul Weltner took over the family winery from his father Wolfgang. The young winemaker has completed an apprenticeship as a cooper as well as an apprenticeship as a winemaker and is thus excellently prepared for this task.

Weltner is for careful cultivation

Today, the Weltner winery owns eight hectares of vineyards in famous vineyards on the Schwanberg. The vines grow on the "Rödelseer Küchenmeister", "Rödelseer Schwanleite" as well as on the immediately neighboring Julius-Echter Berg. Paul Weltner relies on a natural as well as gentle cultivation and development. To this end, he applies a great deal of diligence and precision to cultivate, for example, the Sylvaner, which thrives excellently here on the soils with a multi-layered mineral mix.

• Müller-Thurgau
• Scheurebe
• Pinot Blanc
• Sauvignon Blanc
• Pinot Noir
• Domina

The last two varieties used for red wines, however, account for only eight percent of the total area under cultivation. Paul Weltner does not think much of soft-flavored wines that try to outdo themselves with fruitiness. He prefers the clear, pure-toned and almost puristically elegant style. A good idea that has brought him into the first league of Franconian top wines. 

Some need a little time

But not only that. In recent years, his wines have repeatedly received prestigious awards. Wine lovers in particular find great pleasure in them, while beginners may need some time to recognize the sophistication. At the Weltner winery, they rely on controlled idleness in the cellar. In this way, one achieves more than many others. Thus, the wines are among the most storable from Franconia.
