More information about 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée AOC - Joseph Drouhin

The 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée aged in barrel from the Burgundy wine-growing region presents itself in the glass in a bright light red. After the first swirl, one can perceive a perfect balance in this red wine, as it does not appear watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. On the nose, this Joseph Drouhin red wine reveals all kinds of strawberries, sour cherries and violets. As if that were not already impressive, further aromas such as coffee/mocha and chocolate are added thanks to ageing in small oak barrels.

The Joseph Drouhin 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée delights with its elegantly dry taste profile. It was bottled with 3.3 grams of residual sugar. This is a genuine quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and thus, despite all its dryness, this Frenchman enchants with the finest balance. Flavour does not necessarily require residual sugar. This silky red wine presents itself on the palate as balanced and complex. Thanks to its present acidity, the 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée reveals itself wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. On the finish, this youthful red wine from the Burgundy wine-growing region finally impresses with considerable length. Once again, hints of violet and strawberry appear. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the marl- and clay-dominated soils are added.

Vinification of the Joseph Drouhin 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée

This wine clearly focuses on a single grape variety, namely Pinot Noir. Only immaculate grapes were used for this exceptionally well-balanced varietal wine from Joseph Drouhin. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Burgundy. Here, the vines sink their roots deep into soils of clay, gravel and marl. It is obvious that the 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée is also shaped by the climate and winegrowing style of the Côte de Nuits and Hautes Côtes de Nuits. In the best sense of the word, this French wine can be described as an Old World wine that presents itself in an exceptionally impressive manner. After harvesting, the grapes are brought to the winery as quickly as possible. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small oak barrels at controlled temperatures. Vinification is followed by 16 months of ageing in oak barriques.

Food recommendation for the 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée from Joseph Drouhin

Enjoy this red wine from France best at a temperature of 15 - 18°C as an accompaniment to leek soup, boeuf bourguignon or chickpea curry.
