Antigua Bodega - almost 100 years of winemaking history

From an old winery come modern wines from Antigua Bodega, with finesse and great charm. The winery is located in Santos Lugares - Canelones, the most important wine region in Uruguay. Antigua Bodega Stagnari is a traditional family winery that has been around since 1928.

Virginia Stagnari, her children Mariana and Carlo, besides Laura Casella professionally recognized for his career in the world of wine, shape the current face of this winery and the style of Antigua Bodega wines.

Not far from Montevideo - the vineyards of Antigua Bodega

The vineyards are located in Santos Lugares, La Paz, where the soil is very special, the vineyards are surrounded by quarries, there the sandy loam soil is only one meter deep and geologically the rock underneath is pink granite, which is 500 to 600 million years old. This type of pink granite exists only in this region.

The wines and grape varieties of Antigua Bodega

Antigua Bodega's Tannat and Merlot wines are the result of the terroir concept: "inspiration from young talent, pink granite rock, weather with great thermal amplitude and luminosity".

It quickly becomes clear that the focus at Antigua Bodega is clearly on red grape varieties, and here Tannat in particular plays a major role.

Nowhere else outside of France does Tannat have such a large following as in Uruguay. Antigua Bodega gives their Tannat wines a wonderful fruitiness, combined with strong tannins and lively acidity. All together makes the wines age very well.
