Arrogant Frog - Top Wines with Humor
The "Arrogant Frog" is a humorous and audience-friendly brand from the Domaine Paul Mas. The wines come from the sunny hills of Languedoc, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Hérault. Winemaker Jean-Claude Mas challenges the stereotype that the French have no sense of humor while simultaneously showing where the best wines in the world come from.
The name Arrogant Frog plays with the stereotype that the French are snobbish. It is combined with the nickname the English have for the French: "Frogs." Arrogant Frog embodies all that is important to the French: good food, culture, the nation, and of course, good wine.

Arrogant Frog - fruit, fruit, fruit
Jean-Claude Mas sums up his wines with these words: fruit, fruit, fruit. They are undeniably French but understood worldwide.
The Vineyards and Terroir of Domaine Paul Mas
The arrogant frog was born in the Hérault valley in southern France's Languedoc, not far from the small town of Pézenas, which inspired the famous playwright Molière and is just a half-hour drive from the Mediterranean coast.
The vineyards of Les Domaines Paul Mas are traditionally planted with grape varieties typical of the region.
- Syrah
- Grenache
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Merlot
- Carignan
- Cinsault

The proportion of white wines is lower than that of red wines, but they have been deeply rooted in Languedoc for a long time.
- Viognier
- Marsanne
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Chardonnay
The vines grow on the gravelly, clay-rich limestone benches of the Hérault valley, and on the fossil-laden limestone hills that reveal a stunning view of the Thau Lake.
Vinification under Jean-Claude Mas
The exchange within the winery team, constant tasting, and perfect cellar hygiene are essential to produce French top wines. The goal is for the white and red wines under the Arrogant Frog label to reflect the terroir, possessing fruit, body, elegance, and style. The team around oenologist Jean-Claude Mas is the most determining and vital factor in the winemaking process. All wines, from fermentation to bottling, are overseen by the “Humble Winemaker,” as he calls himself.
Jean-Claude Mas is a winemaker in the fourth generation. A recurring story from his childhood is that at just 3 years old, he wandered away from his mother during the grape harvest. He walked the 2-kilometer path from the vineyard to the cellar, wanting to help his father and grandfather with pressing and winemaking. Since then, his interest and passion for wine have only grown.

In the early 1990s, Jean-Claude worked with wines such as Château du Pape Clément or Château Talbot from Bordeaux, where he spent 4 years. These experiences were and are crucial for his current approach to grapes from Languedoc. In 1995, he returned to his roots. Jean-Claude Mas is regarded as one of the pioneers of the "new Languedoc" or the "new era" of wine in France, among those advocating for the restoration of the region's status in which wine culture is over 2000 years old.
