The management is very hands-on and forward-looking. Very early on they focused on class. The decisive step on the way to the top, however, was that Santadi managed to hire a “wine legend” as a consultant: Giacomo Tachis.

A fresh breeze in the house

Giacomo Tachis is without doubt the oenologist who has given the most important impulses to Italian viticulture over the last 50 years. For many years, Tachis was the head oenologist at Antinori and as such the “inventor” of cult wines such as Tignanello, Sassicaia and Solaia. He made barrique socially acceptable in Italy, he advocated limiting yields per vine, he created wines with high concentration and density, and he led Santadi to success.

Into the charts with Carignano

Tachis had always been interested in the grape varieties and wines of Sardinia, especially Carignano. He was convinced that Carignano is the stuff from which great wines can be made. And he proved it with the red wines of Santadi. With

he created magnificent wines that were quickly included in the international “hit lists”.
