The Rocca Rubia from Santadi is a top Sardinian wine that impresses in the glass with its intense, almost opaque ruby red color. On the nose, the Rocca Rubia reveals intense aromas of local myrtle, accompanied by plenty of blueberries, blackberries, soft leather, vanilla and mild licorice.

The full-bodied Rocca Rubia from Santadi is velvety and full on the palate with long-lasting aromas and a great structure.

Vinification of the Rocca Rubia from Cantina di Santadi

The grapes for the powerful Rocca Rubia Riserva Carignano del Sulcis DOC from Cantina di Santadi come from vineyards near the Mediterranean coast of the Sulcis region in south-western Sardinia. The wine is made from 100% Carignano, which is cultivated in the Sulcis region of south-western Sardinia as a small tree in the old Latin style. The grapes for this powerful, tannin-rich wine thrive perfectly on the sandy, loamy and poor soils.

After harvesting and separation from the stems, the grapes ferment in steel tanks at a controlled temperature for around 14 days. During this time, the mash is repeatedly stirred so that the tannins, which are particularly rich in Sardinian Carignano, are transferred to the mash. After fermentation, the Rocca Rubia is transferred to new and two-year-old French barrique barrels, where it is aged for 10 to 12 months. A few months in the bottle help the wine to develop its rich bouquet.
