Cantina Gentili - Chianti tradition since 1963

Cantine Gentili vineyards in the evening

The first Chianti bottled in the Cantina Gentili cellar dates back to 1963. But it all started earlier, because grandfather Sinibaldo Gentili began to take care of the wine in a very traditional way already in the 50's and passed this passion to his son Carlo.

finally, in 1963, Carlo decided to found Cantina Gentili, a company that grew in the 90s, acquiring lands on the Costa del Sole. Today, the Gentili family runs the 15-hectare family farm with great dedication and, together with their offspring, looks to a hopeful future.

The terroir of Cantina Gentili

225 million years ago, the Mediterranean Sea receded, giving way to a unique land that has offered refuge to man since prehistoric times. Today it acts as a border between the Val D'Orcia and the Valdichiana, two magical and colorful areas, rich in hills and some of the most beautiful landscapes of the peninsula. It is an oasis of peace and serenity made of living soil, ready to offer its fruits to Cantina Gentili.

The vineyards of the Gentili family

The vineyards of Cantina Gentili are located 250 to 350 meters and are 80% planted with the autochthonous grape varieties

  • Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese)
  • Colorino
  • Malvasia del Chianti
  • Trebbiano Toscano

stocked. The other 20% is occupied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot , Petit Verdot, Grechetto and Chardonnay vines.

Costa Del Sole - Where wine has a centuries-old tradition

According to the historical documents "Registri della Lira", dated October 1544, the territory of Camporsevoli was granted by Pope Pius II to his nephews Andrea and Giacomo Piccolomini.

This fief also included the "Costa al Sole", an area particularly suitable for wine growing, entrusted to a certain Bernardino alias Barone, and given only to the most deserving vassal families, as it was there that the best wine would be produced for the feudal lord. Today - centuries later, the grapes for Gentili wines grow here.

Le Favorite - the land needs new sites

Cantine Gentili Vintage

The "Le Favorite" area is located at the top of the Costa del Sole, on a steeply sloping hilltop, where the sunlight, the clayey-limestone soil and the proximity of Mount Cetona allow the grapes to ripen up to ten days earlier than those of the surrounding vineyards. This makes the Cantina Gentili wines from this site particularly full-bodied, accompanied at the same time by a complex and highly elegant aromatic structure that makes them unique in the area.
