More information about Chakalaka Spice Route - Spice Route Winery

The barrel-aged Chakalaka Spice Route from the wine-growing region of the Western Cape offers itself in the glass in dense purple. Swiveling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high density and fullness, which shows in church windows at the edge of the glass. Poured into a red wine glass, this red wine from South Africa presents wonderfully complex aromas of morello cherry, plum, black cherry and damson, rounded out by dark chocolate, black tea and oak contributed by aging in wooden barrels.

The Spice Route Winery Chakalaka Spice Route delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with 3.3 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this South African naturally enchants with the finest balance despite all dryness. Excellent taste does not necessarily need a lot of sugar. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully fleshy and dense. With its lively fruit acidity, the Chakalaka Spice Route presents itself impressively fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of the Western Cape finally inspires with considerable length. Once again, hints of black cherry and morello cherry show through. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by weathered rock and clay are added.

Vinification of the Spice Route Winery Chakalaka Spice Route

The starting point for Spice Route Winery's premium and wonderfully powerful Chakalaka Spice Route cuvée is Carignan, Durif, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Tannat grapes. In the Western Cape, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of clay and weathered rock. After harvesting, the grapes are taken by the fastest route to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully ground. Then fermentation takes place in concrete and small wood at controlled temperatures. The fermentation is followed by aging for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled.

Food recommendation for the Spice Route Winery Chakalaka Spice Route

This South African is best enjoyed tempered at 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to spinach gratin with almonds, cod with cucumber mustard vegetables or potato pan with salmon.
