Château Mukhrani – Great wine tradition from Georgia
Georgia is considered the cradle of viticulture – wine has been produced here for over 7,000 years. As a result, the country in the Caucasus is one of the oldest and most fascinating wine-producing nations in the world. The exceptionally favorable geological and climatic conditions form the basis for a remarkable diversity of native Georgian grape varieties such as Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Kisi, or Mtsvane. Additionally, international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, or Riesling are cultivated to produce wines meeting the highest global standards.

Especially unique is the traditional wine production in clay amphorae (Quevri), which are buried deep in the ground. This millennia-old method ensures natural fermentation and gives Georgian wines their unmistakable, characterful flavor. In 2013, Quevri wine production was even added to the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The origin of the winery Château Mukhrani
The winery Château Mukhrani was founded in the 19th century by Prince Ivane Mukhranbatoni, a member of the Georgian royal family. Inspired by his travels to France – especially in Bordeaux and Champagne – he recognized his homeland's potential for world-class wines. In 1876, he established Château Mukhrani and combined French expertise with Georgian wine tradition.

Soon, the Mukhrani wines became internationally renowned and highly appreciated – among others at the Russian Tsar's court, in Paris, Vienna, and even in the USA. Ivane Mukhranbatoni demonstrated convincingly that Georgian wines can be among the great wines of the world. The especially famous Mukhrani sparkling wine was awarded the first prize at the 1889 Paris World Fair.
Revival of a Georgian cultural heritage
After a tumultuous history, a new era began in 2002: a group of committed investors laid the foundation for the restoration and revival of Château Mukhrani. The aim was to restore the historic estate to its former glory while integrating modern winemaking technology. In 2007, a state-of-the-art winery was finally built – equipped with the latest technology but firmly rooted in Georgian tradition.
Today, Château Mukhrani uniquely combines innovation and tradition. The grapes are sourced exclusively from their own vineyards, which stretch directly around the Château estate. The freshly harvested grapes reach the cellar within just 15 minutes – a crucial factor for the outstanding quality of the wines.
Authentic Georgian wines at world-class level
Château Mukhrani now stands for premium wines from Georgia that reflect the character of the country in every bottle. Whether a robust Saperavi red wine with notes of dark berries and spices or a fresh, aromatic Rkatsiteli white wine with fine mineral notes – each glass tells a piece of Georgian history. Those wishing to experience authentic Georgian wine culture will find in the wines of Château Mukhrani an authentic and impressive example of craftsmanship, passion, and tradition.
