DFJ Vinhos

The company DFJ Vinhos was founded in Portugal as early as 1897. It is located in Valada on the Rio Tejo. 

The winemaker behind DFJ Vinhos

José Neiva Correia is not only responsible for the wines of DFJ Vinhos, but is also considered one of Portugal’s most renowned oenologists.

Working according to a motto

Following the motto "Great wines for little money", his broad repertoire includes not only wines from grapes grown in prime vineyards with very low yields, but also wines that are easy to sell and match the taste of the international wine market. The winemaker himself was born and raised on the Quinta de Porto Franco estate.

Even today, a large part of the fruit used for the DFJ wines grows on the 200-hectare cultivation area, which historians describe as one of the oldest in the nation. Its origins probably go back to the time before the founding of Portugal. José Neiva Correia’s maternal and paternal ancestors were involved in viticulture. The vineyards grow (among others):

Combining enthusiasm, creativity and knowledge

The family’s long winemaking tradition, in addition to his studies in Germany and Bordeaux, is certainly a main reason for Correia’s expertise in viticulture. With creativity and enthusiasm he creates wines and does not shy away from innovations: Correia is responsible for the introduction of new grape varieties in Portugal and also holds a patent for a method of sealing wine bottles in which the cork is disinfected with ozone.
