Domaine Berthoumieu is located in the heart of the home of the famous musketeer Charles De Batz de Castelmore, Comte d'Artagnan.
Domaine Berthoumieu- a long history

The Berthoumieu estate was founded in the 1850s by Virgile Dutour in the commune of Viella in the Gers department. After several generations, Marie-Line and Didier Barré took over the estate in the 1990s and made it a fixture in the Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh appellations. On its 25 hectares, the estate produces sophisticated wines that always combine personality, identity and balance.Claire and Marion Bortolussi, two sisters united in their passion for wine, have made it their mission to continue the work begun over 150 years ago, bringing their personal vision of great wines from the Southwest. They are supported by renowned oenologist Damien Sartori and former owner Didier Barré.
The vineyards of Domaine Berthoumieu
On average, the vines are 25 years old. Some parcels, however, are still home to ancient vines that are 85-90 years old. These grapes are also used in the wine production. The vineyard benefits from a warm, predominantly oceanic microclimate, with the River Adour acting as a natural barrier to rainfall from the north and west. Domaine Berthoumieu farms its vineyards organically, taking care to interfere as little as possible with natural processes.

The d'Artagnan fiefdom produces wines under two protected designations of origin: MADIRAN for the red wines and PACHERENC du VIC BIHL for the white wines. 85% of the vineyard is devoted to red grapes such as
- Tannat
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Cabernet Franc or
- Pinenc
are reserved. The remaining 15% are reserved for the white vines.

The Tannat- trademark of Domaine Berthoumieu
'The most expressive that the South of France has to offer at an incredible value for money', 'Charles de Batz.... one of the most independent, characterful red wines in the world", "a winery at the top of the appellation" - these are only a few headlines of praise for the outstanding Tannat of Domaine Berthoumieu. Tannat is a tremendously powerful, deeply dark and tannic red wine from the Gascogne region at the foot of the Pyrenean foothills.
