More information about Charles de Batz AOP - Domaine Berthoumieu

In the glass, the Charles de Batz from Domaine Berthoumieu reveals a dense purple-red color. Poured into a red wine glass, this red wine from the Old World offers wonderfully expressive aromas of sour cherry and blackberry, rounded off by further fruity nuances contributed by ageing in wooden barrels.

On the palate, the Charles de Batz from Domaine Berthoumieu opens wonderfully aromatic, fruity and balanced. There is dry and really dry. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was vinified with just 0.4 g of residual sugar. The texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully melting on the palate. Thanks to the balanced fruit acidity, the Charles de Batz has a pleasant mouthfeel without lacking freshness. On the finish, this wine from the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region, which ages well, finally delights with its beautiful length. There are again hints of sour cherry and blackberry. Mineral notes from the gravel and limestone-dominated soils are added to the finish.

Vinification of Charles de Batz from Domaine Berthoumieu

This powerful red wine from France is made from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat grape varieties. In Sud Ouest, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on limestone and gravel soils. Due to the moderating influence of the nearby sea, the grapes ripen more slowly and develop more aromatic complexity. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks and small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by maturation on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally bottled. Ageing in wooden barrels is followed by a long maturation in the bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Dining recommendations for Domaine Berthoumieu Charles de Batz

This French red wine is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It is the perfect accompaniment to boeuf bourguignon, stuffed peppers or veal steak with beans and tomatoes.
