Domaine Chatelain - since 1630
1630 - the family can trace its winemaking heritage on the slopes of Pouilly sur Loire back to this year. However, it was to take a long time before the Chatelains gained fame beyond the borders of their region. This happened 300 years later, when André Chatelain began to export his wine for the first time.

Today, the 12th generation of Chatelains runs the Domaine Chatelain estate. 30 hectares of vines are spread over 6 of the 7 communes of the Pouilly Fumé AOC appellation. Exactly these are:
- Tracy-sur-Loire
- Pouilly-sur-Loire
- Mesves-sur-Loire
- Saint Andelain
- Saint-Laurent l'Abbaye
- Saint-Martin-sur-Nohain
Thus, the Chatelains cover almost all the different terroirs of the appellation, which gives them a high degree of creative freedom for their wines.
Terroirs of the appellation
In the Barrois, for example, you will find soils rich in limestone and clay with white pebbles. They offer good drainage and warming of the soil, allowing the grapes to ripen early. However, they also dry out quickly as a result and require a lot of effort to maintain.

Around Tracy-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain and Saint-Laurent l'Abbaye, there are clay soils interspersed with flint. These soils are the most famous in the region, the name fumé (smoked) alluding to the smoke produced when the stones are smashed together. The mineral taste of the wines from these soils is the hallmark of the region.
The last soil type is marl soils from the Kimmerigidian, which tend to warm up slowly and need to be loosened more often. The wines from these soils offer a fruity taste and a nice length.

Today, the portfolio includes six appellation wines from Pouilly-Fumé, one Pouilly-sur-Loire wine, as well as one from the neighboring appellation Sancerre. They are exclusively white wines. The grape varieties are Chasselas and Sauvignon Blanc, the appellation grape variety of Pouilly-Fumé.
