The estate De Oude Drostdy, as Drostdy Hof was originally called, was founded in 1804 in the small town of Tulbagh. Tulbagh is located about 125 northeast of Cape Town, in the Breede River Valley, a well-known wine-growing region of South Africa.  The estate is part of the Distell Group, which distributes various wines and spirits in South Africa.

A large portfolio of grape varieties and types of wine is produced under the Drostdy brand. Among them are varieties typical for South Africa such as Pinotage, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc. White, red, and rosé wines as well as sparkling wines are offered.
