Feudi Bizantini

FEUDI BIZANTINI was founded around 1900 in Contrada San Paolo, just south of Pescara, by Antonio Antonucci.

History of the winery

He fell in love with the natural landscape of Abruzzo and the cultural legacy of its long wine tradition. In this lush green, predominantly mountainous landscape, he found everything together: Vines, fruit trees, woods, olives and herbs.Today the great-grandson, Luigi Ulisse, runs the winery. He reoriented Feudi Bizantini with great respect for his heritage and traditional methods. Together with winemaker Marco Flacco, he gets the best out of the various factors. This commitment to the past in Abruzzo's viticulture but also to innovation and research have resulted in excellent wines that have elevated this wine-growing region to world-class status.

The territory 

The winery is located in the historic Byzantine town of Crecchio. The vineyards are located near the villages of

• Ortona
• Lanciano
• Guliano Testino
• and Crecchio.

The unique position of the vineyards allows the vines to benefit from the sea and mountain breezes. This produces wines that are full-bodied and reflect the characteristics of the region. The soils are thin and very calcareous with a light base of clay and sand. The proximity to the Gran Sasso mountains and the altitude of the winery itself; all the vineyards are located at altitudes between 300 and 350 meters; provide strong temperature variations between day and night. All these factors give rise to wines with fresh, elegant fragrances with aromatic complexity.

The Abruzzo

This region is located in central Italy. Characterized  the region Abruzzo by the flat coast, which changes into a gentle hilly landscape. Dominant in the region, however, is the limestone massif, with heights of up to 3000 meters. About one third of the total area of Abruzzo is taken up by nature reserves. The viticulture in this rather unknown wine-growing region, is rather concentrated on the narrow strip at the Adriatic Sea and at the feet of the mountain massif. The highest vineyards are located at about 600 meters.
