Every bottle from this estate tells a story of diligence and love of nature and brings the light of Italy directly into your glass.
The history of Isole e Olena
In 1956, Francesco De Marchi bought two villages and thus created the basis for an estate with great depth and very long continuity. His son Paolo later led the house to success with great ambition and laid the foundation for today’s worldwide reputation of the well-known Italian brand. The legacy now lies in the hands of the Descours family, who preserve the spirit of their ancestors with great dedication and pride. The team in the vineyard still tends the vines in the traditional way today, thus ensuring the continuation of this great tradition for all times to come.
In the past, many people in the villages lived from the yield of the fields and created a community with a focus on wine and oil. Paolo De Marchi began a new era of quality and spent years selecting only the best plants for the cultivation of his own vines. He tied colorful ribbons to the strong vines in the field and thus secured the genes for the future of the estate’s entire production. This work requires a lot of patience and results in a wine with deep color and a complex scent of ripe fruit and herbs.

The Isole e Olena area
The vineyards lie to the west of Chianti Classico near San Donato in Poggio on soils of solid stone and clay at high altitude. These layers of galestro give the wines great freshness and provide a structure with firm grip and a very long finish on the palate. The cool night air slows the ripening of the berries and thus preserves the fruit as well as the fine acidity in the juice of the ripe grapes. Each parcel reflects the magic of these hills and brings the soul of Tuscany in pure elegance directly to you.
The land rests at an elevation of almost five hundred meters and offers ideal conditions for slow and perfect ripening of the dark berries in summer. Nature there remains intact and wild and offers many animals a safe place to live in harmony with human viticulture. The estate protects biodiversity and relies on cultivation without chemicals for a balanced vineyard and a pure taste in the glass.

Grape varieties at Isole e Olena
Sangiovese forms the backbone of the daily work, and this grape here displays all its splendor and great pride in its own origins. The team tends the old vines with great care and harvests only the best berries for the production of the wines bearing the estate’s name. Here are key facts about the work in the vineyard and in the cellar to ensure high quality in every batch:
1. The selection of the best vines takes place directly in the field over many years.
2. Small yields per hectare promote concentration and power in the flavor.
3. The harvest is done by hand at the point of perfect ripeness of the fruit.
4. Maturation in wood gives the wines a gentle polish and structure.
In addition to the main variety, other grapes also thrive on the estate and enrich the range with new notes and exciting facets for discerning connoisseurs worldwide:
• Chardonnay brings creaminess and power for white dreams in the glass.
• Syrah provides spice and dark berries for a palate full of juicy richness.
• Cabernet Sauvignon ensures structure and a framework of fine silk.
• Canaiolo contributes roundness and complements the wine with soft fruit.
