 Kaapzicht Estate is a family-run winery in the Stellenbosch district, South Africa. 

Kaapzicht Estate - A true family business

The name "Kaapzicht" comes from the fantastic view from our hills over Cape Town and Table Mountain. The Steytler family has been farming here since 1946; Danie and his younger brother George are now the owners of the estate in the third generation.

Every member of the family has their job

George is the viticulturist and takes care of the vineyards, the maintenance of buildings and vehicles. His wife Mandy rents out a venue for weddings and parties as well as a small guest house. Danie (the older of the two brothers) oversees the finances and everything that happens in the wine cellar, and also helps with local sales and marketing in South Africa. His son Danie Junior joined the family business as winemaker in February 2009. He has a degree in oenology and viticulture from Stellenbosch University. His wife also works in the family business and is responsible for all sales in South Africa. Danie’s wife is the export marketing manager and helps to expand the export markets.

Dream conditions in the vineyard

The dry-farmed vineyards are planted on old weathered granite soils on the northwestern slopes of the Bottelary Hills (warm, direct sunlight), 30 km from the Atlantic (cool sea breezes), and thus have a perfect combination of everything needed for full-bodied, fruity wines. On 190 ha, 70% red varieties

• Cabernet Franc
• Petit Verdot
• Malbec and
• Pinot Noir

as well as 30% white varieties (mainly Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, some Muscat d'Alexandrie and even less Chardonnay) are grown. All wines are made from their own grapes, which are grown on the estate’s own land and vinified in the cellar. As a result, consistent quality is guaranteed. The wines are matured in stainless-steel tanks and wooden barrels.

Philosophy of Kaapzicht Estate

Danie Steytler and his son make their wines exactly the way they themselves like to drink them: full-bodied, rounded and fruity wines, with good structure, well-integrated tannins and a long finish. At the same time, they constantly try to improve their wines. Improvement is also the key word for the responsibility that the winery feels for the advancement of their farm workers and their families. Thus, 120 people still live on the farm. Since most of the youngsters did not finish school for financial reasons, Üaaüzicht began in 2002 to pay all the school fees for all 42 children of the employees.
