König & Krieger - alcohol-free from the start
The German manufacturer König & Krieger specializes in the production of alcohol-free wines. The young company began in 2017 by importing the Pierre Chavin brand, the market leader for alcohol-free wines in France. It would not be long before they decided to set up German production themselves, all while maintaining German food standards and wine regulations. To this end, König & Krieger gained a large partner with its own dealcoholization plant, with whom they could jointly produce the quantities to serve the market.
The only thing missing was a name with identification potential, which was to be given to the new product. At first an artificial name was considered, but finally an employee had the idea to research the Latin roots of the names of the company founders, and so the brand name König und Krieger was born.

De-alcoholization of wine
Wine can be dealcoholized by various methods. The oldest process is the vacuum extraction process, which was patented by Carl Jung as early as 1908. In this process, the wine is heated in a vacuum to just below 30 °C, and most of the alcohol is released from the wine by evaporation. Alternatively, one of the more recent inventions is dealcoholization by centrifugal cone column, in which the various substances in the wine are also separated under vacuum using centrifugal force. In both processes, the aromatic substances volatilize, which are collected separately and added to the wine after dealcoholization.
The wines of König & Krieger
Today, an assortment of different wines and mousseux has been built up, which are produced under the name of König and Krieger. Thus, the assortment includes
- White wine
- Rosé wine
- Red wine
- Sparkling wine
- Feuerkelch, a non-alcoholic variant of mulled wine

The grape varieties used here are old favorites, such as the great Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling varieties for the white wines. For red wine, the classic Cabernet Sauvignon is used. For the rosé, Merlot is used. For the Fire Goblet, on the other hand, Dornfelder red wine is used as the basis.
Fans don't have to do without sparkling wine either, which comes in both white and rosé. In addition to a classic Riesling sparkling wine, a white and a rosé cuvée, the König & Krieger range also includes the sparkling wine Freifrau , which is not dissimilar in character to the well-known Italian sparkling wine Moscato d'Asti.
