More information about Merlot Pays d'Oc - Les Jamelles

The Merlot of Les Jamelles from the French wine-growing region Languedoc-Roussillon is an elegant, round and varietal red wine.

This wine shows a deep dark ruby color with violet reflections. On the nose, this French red wine smells intensely of dark forest fruits, underpinned by spicy nuances of thyme and cinnamon. On the palate, one feels this Merlot immensely round and balanced. The ripe tannins are velvety soft and well integrated into the complex body. The fruity aromas of blackberries, elderberries and black cherries are complemented by nuances of fragrant blueberry jam. The expansive fruit is underpinned by smoky aromas and hints of cinnamon and Mediterranean herbs. The balanced finish has a pleasant length.

Vinification of Les Jamelles Merlot

The grapes for this red wine are grown in the eastern part of the Aude Valley. The 15 year old vines are grown in the Gobelet and the Cordonde Royat system of cultivation and produce rather low yields.

After harvesting, the grapes are carefully destemmed. A small portion is fermented by carbonic maceration, while the other part ferments with a relatively long maceration time in stainless steel tanks. Again, part of the base wine is aged in used oak barrels for rounding.

Food recommendation for the Merlot of Les Jamelles

We recommend this dry red wine from France with stuffed tomatoes, beef steak or chicken with ratatouille.
