Winery Marqués de Riscal - Wines from Rioja and Rueda for over 150 years
The Bodega Marqués de Riscal was founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga in Elciego and is one of the oldest wineries in Rioja. Since then, Marqués de Riscal sets international, as well as national standards in terms of wine. The Álava region, belonging to Rioja and located in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, is characterized by a mixture of continental and Atlantic influenced climate.

Marqués de Riscal - the avant-garde from Rioja
The bodega was able to bottle its first wines only 4 years after its opening. A short time later, the first successes were achieved when Marqués de Riscal became the first non-French winery to receive a certificate of honor at the Bordeaux Wine Fair. After more than 100 years, the company started the production of white wines in Rueda and other production facilities followed promptly. Today, Marqués de Riscal counts not only several bodegas among its possessions but the Marqués de Riscal City of Wine, an eno-tourism - whale sanctuary located in the small Elciego with luxury hotel and star restaurant.
The eye-catcher of the City of Wine
Probably the most eye-catching building of the City of Wine is the hotel - created by the famous Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry. It symbolizes the innovative and avant-garde spirit of Marqués de Riscal. It reflects the colors of Marqués de Riscal wines:
- Pink, like red wine
- Gold, like the mesh on the Riscal bottles
- Silver, like the foil cap on the neck of the bottle
