Palazzo Malgara - Sun, Wind and Wine

Sicily, home of Palazzo Malgara, is the largest and also the most densely populated island in the Mediterranean. It is separated from Italy by the Strait of Messina. The winds that blow in from Africa turn the southern side of the island into an arid area, dotted with cacti and meager scrub. Half of the southern vineyards have to be irrigated because of the almost continuous drought from June to September. They form green dots in the landscape. In the north and east of the island, the climate is somewhat cooler and also more humid. Nevertheless, the sunshine is enough to allow the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. In the midst of the hills of Menfi lies Palazzo Malgara, in the middle of one of the most important Sicilian regions for viticulture.

A project becomes a masterpiece - Palazzo Malgara

Palazzo Malgara owes its success to two well-known oenologists. In 1990, they set their minds on producing wine in the most southern regions for viticulture, Puglia and Sicily. This should be made from indigenous grape varieties and accurately reflect the characteristics and expression of the areas in which they are grown. The result is wines - modern, elegant and powerful - that express the diversity, the strength and the climate of the South. Meanwhile, the Italian wine experts at Palazzo Malgara have enlisted reinforcements from South Tyrol. The two newcomers not only support the project, they also take it further. Grillo, Inzolia and Catarratto are the white grape varieties they have dedicated themselves to growing and developing. With their knowledge and with their techniques they have taken the resulting wines to an international level.
