Quaderna Via - Organic pioneers in Navarra

Quaderna Via is an organic winery in the Navarra region. Since 1998, brothers Raúl and Jorge Ripa Zudaire have been growing wine according to organic principles. This makes them one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in their region. At the time they were rather ridiculed for their decision, but they say themselves that they prefer to be "the head of a mouse rather than the tail of the lion". If in the beginning they did not have their own winery, they used the cellar of a friendly winemaker for this purpose, then in 2002/2003 they erected the first building. The newly built bodega is located directly on the famous Way of St. James.

While Raúl is in charge of oenology, Jorge is responsible for the commercial side of Quaderna Via. The two are supported by Adolfo in the vineyard, who shines with his deep knowledge of the vine and soil, and Yolanda, who, together with Raúl, takes care of all matters in the cellar.

At the foot of the mountains - Quaderna Via

The surrounding area of the Quaderna Via vineyards consists of forest and scrubland, which form a natural barrier around the vines. Herbicides, pesticides and other chemical pesticides are not used, native fauna and flora are deliberately allowed to interact with the vineyard to allow for a healthy ecosystem. The climate in Navarre is dry, sunny, but also fresh. Grapes tend to ripen slowly here, and the nearby mountains have a regulating influence. Both native and international grape varieties are grown at the winery:

• Tempranillo
• Merlot
• Garnacha
• Chardonnay
• Graciano

 The current plan is to replant some old plots, using autochthonous grape varieties that have almost disappeared and that the brothers would like to preserve.

Cellar and wine of Quaderna Via

The cellar has also been rebuilt with the winery building and is accordingly equipped with the most modern technology to receive the grapes from the Quaderna Via vineyards. The wines of the estate strongly reflect the terroir from which they come and have a good freshness and liveliness even in older vintages. The high quality products do well with a little maturity so that they can develop their full potential.

The portfolio of the estate can be separated into two parts: The entry-level wines with the "Be Bike" label and the higher-quality wines that bear the estate's name. The vinification methods differ accordingly, from rosé aged only in stainless steel to red reserve wine aged for a long time in wooden barrels. In accordance with Spanish tradition, Quaderna Via also offers its high-quality wines in different maturation lengths, starting with the "normal" to the Crianza to the already mentioned Reserva.
