More information about Santenay AOC - Joseph Drouhin

With the Joseph Drouhin Santenay comes a first-class red wine in the glass. In this it shows a wonderfully bright, light red color. Slightly slanted, at the edges of this barrel-aged wine, a transition of hue towards garnet red is discernible. After the first swirl, one can perceive a first-rate balance in this red wine, as it does not stand out watery or syrupy or liqueur-like on the walls of the glass. This single varietal French wine presents wonderfully expressive notes of mulberries, blueberries, black currants and blackberries in the glass. These are joined by hints of black tea, cocoa bean and dark chocolate.

The Joseph Drouhin Santenay presents itself to the wine enthusiast wonderfully dry. This red wine never shows itself coarse or meager, as one might expect from a wine top wine range. On the tongue, this balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly silky and fleshy texture. Finally, the finish of this maturing red wine from the Burgundy wine-growing region impresses with a beautiful reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by marl and clay.

Vinification of the Santenay by Joseph Drouhin

The basis for the balanced Santenay from Burgundy are grapes from the Pinot Noir grape variety. In Burgundy, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of clay and marl. After the manual harvest, the grapes reach the press house in the fastest way. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Then fermentation takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. After its end, the Santenay is aged for another 12 months in oak barriques.

Food recommendation for the Santenay by Joseph Drouhin

This red wine from France is best enjoyed at a temperate 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to vegetable couscous with beef meatballs, boeuf bourguignon or lamb stew with chickpeas and dried figs.
