Vallformosa - Cava everywhere
Vallformosa is a wine producer from Catalonia, specializing mainly in the Spanish sparkling wine Cava.
Wine has been produced under this name since 1865, at that time in very small quantities. After the phylloxera plague in the 1880s, Vallformosa began quite quickly to replant resistant grape varieties and was thus able to recover quickly from the disaster. At the beginning of the 20th century, large-scale wine production began. finally, in 1938, the first Vallformosa cava was launched.

Recently, many steps have been made regarding sustainability and modern orientation of the company. The whole production has been made more sustainable and an agreement has been signed with the winegrowers' cooperative Associació de Viticultors del Pla de Manlleu, which represents more than 40 winegrowers in the region, for the supply of grapes.
In addition to the brand of the same name, Vallformosa also includes
- Mistinguett
- Cultivare
- Gran Barón
All Vallformosa wines are certified vegan since 2021.
The +500 zone - the heart of Vallformosa
The grapes for Vallformosa wines come mainly from the +500 zone, which derives its name from the altitude, more than 500 meters above sea level. This environment hosts a unique natural biodiversity in Penedés, where the vineyards are located between hills and mountains. Vallformosa participates directly in programs for the conservation of this area and the recovery of autochthonous varieties adapted to the conditions of the soil and altitude. The grapes from this mountainous area ripen more slowly due to the temperature differences between day and night, which gives them high quality organoleptic characteristics. The vineyards from which Vallformosa obtains its grapes are gradually being converted to organic farming.

Vallformosa's technical team analyzes different plots throughout the year to find the best vineyards. These are long-standing vines, planted freely, without trellises and with low yields. Their fruits are excellent and provide the best quality for the wines. These plots are part of the Vallformosa Plus project, which allows the Fima to establish a long-term collaboration with winemakers committed to the care and supply of quality grapes, with the guarantee of full traceability and with special technical support from Vallformosa. More than 500 winemakers now work with Vallformosa.

The grapes are all processed in the large winery at Vilobí del Penedès, where there are 12 tanks with a capacity of 300,000 liters. State-of-the-art sensory technology is used here to help select the best grapes for the wines, and pressing takes place pneumatically to treat the grapes as gently as possible.
Sustainability for the future
In recent years, Vallformosa has made a strong commitment to sustainability. At the turn of the millennium, for example, the company began to successively reduce water consumption, so that today it uses about 40% less water than the industrial average. The bottles are also reduced in weight to make transport less energy-intensive. The electricity for the plants is generated from renewable sources, and almost all the waste is recycled.
