Fratelli Nistri Winery History in Tuscany

Casa Vinicola F.lli Nistri was founded in 1865 by Francesco Nistri, who started a wine business in Mezzana, a suburb of the city of Prato. Due to its distant origins, the company is one of the oldest realities in the wine sector in Tuscany. Today the company still has its headquarters in Prato, in a factory near the first headquarters of the founder Francesco Nistri, but the work to move the business to the new plant under construction in the municipality of Greve in Chianti began some time ago. in the Chianti Classico production area and near our farm "Tenuta di Vignole" in Panzano in Chianti.

Fratelli Nistri Winery Today

In recent years the company has undergone a radical transformation, investing in technology and new machinery and giving priority to the production and bottling of quality wines. Currently, production is based on the selection and bottling of the main Tuscan wines (Chianti, Chianti Classico, Morellino di Scansano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Maremma Toscana Doc Rosso and Doc Vermentino, Sangiovese IGT, Vermentino IGT and others) as well as Orvieto and Orvieto Classico, wines with Umbrian denomination of origin. The company also produces and bottles liqueur and dessert wines. The Vignole farm is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico production area near the town of Panzano and was purchased by the Nistri family in 1970.

With an area of 21 hectares, 14 of which are dedicated to specialized vineyards, the company's land is located along the valley of the river Pesa, better known in the Panzano region as "La Conca d'Oro" for the excellent quality of the wines that are produced there - at an altitude of between 290 and 320 metres, extending on both sides of a hill facing south-east and south-west.

The vines used have been planted and cultivated in full respect of the traditions of Chianti Classico and the territory of Panzano. The company has modern cellars, partly inside the main farmhouse (built in 1500) with a winemaking department, the so-called "barrel", separated from the aging, consisting of a cellar dug inside the hill, suitable for its function due to the reduced seasonal temperature change. The wines produced are therefore the result of care and attention in the process that begins in the vineyard and continues in the selection of grapes during the harvest, in the careful vinification, in the aging in barrels and barriques, all in accordance with the traditions .and the characteristics of wines that belong to the best Tuscan oenology.

If you have a lifelong passion for fine wines like Rolf Freund, Tuscany is one of your heart's desires. Together with the gifted winemaker Matteo Bernabei, Rolf Freund set out in search of sophisticated red wines in the vineyards and cellars of Tuscany. The two passionate wine experts wanted to create wines that taste typical for the region, are seductively balanced and are good food companions. They proceeded very concentrated and far-sighted, paid attention to the smallest details of each wine and yet never lost sight of the big picture. Rolf Freund and Matteo Bernabei behaved like thoughtful chess players - only they did not play against each other, but they contributed their experiences together.
